Cleveland, OH. – Kennesaw State women's track sprinter Alicia Whittle was named as one of five recipients of the John McLendon Minority Postgraduate Scholarship, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the John McLendon Minority Scholarship Foundation announced on Monday (Aug. 3).

"I am extremely pleased for Alicia," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Andy Eggerth said. "She is one of a kind.  Alicia demonstrates great intrinsic motivation and self-discipline.  The majority of people give up what they want most for what they want now, but Alicia does a great job of looking forward to achieve her goals. It will be a pleasure to follow her progress throughout her life and watch all the big things she accomplishes."

Whittle, who will enter the 2015-16 academic year as a graduate student and compete conclude her eligibility in outdoor track and field, will receive a $10,000 grant to be used towards postgraduate studies in athletics administration.

Whittle has put together quite an impressive resume on the track at KSU. If you combine her indoor and outdoor track accomplishments, she holds or is a part of a relay team that holds 12 school records, 10 conference championship event wins, and 14 all-conference selections. She also has competed as a member of the 4x100m relay team twice at NCAA Outdoor Championships earning Second-Team All-American honors once.
A resident of Douglasville, Ga., Whittle graduated from Kennesaw State with a 3.75 GPA and a degree in communications. She is a three-time presidential scholar and United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American.

Whittle plans to pursue a master's degree in integrated global communications at Kennesaw State.
