Fort Myers, Fla. –
The No. 3-seeded Kennesaw State softball team jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but came up short in suffering a 7-4  loss to No. 6 Stetson in an elimination game of the 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament on Friday  (May 8) at the FGCU Softball Complex.

The Owls (32-19) close out the season with a fourth-place finish in the A-Sun Tournament.

"We struggled today," head coach Tory Acheson said. "The way the year ended does not, in any way, diminish all that this team accomplished. We learned a lot from this week which will really help us as we build for the future. We have become a very good team this year but we have a lot of work to do to become the championship-level team we want to be."

A two-run home run by Courtney Sutter and a sacrifice fly by Missy Perkowski helped the Owls jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Stetson's Brittany Hawn's RBI single in the third inning accounted for the Hatters' first run of the game cut Kennesaw State's lead to 3-1.

The Owls answered right back with an Emily Bishop RBI single in the bottom of the third that gave KSU a 4-1 lead.

The Hatters (32-19) cut Kennesaw State's lead to 4-3 in the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs on an RBI single by Kayla Drury and Owls' fielding error.

Stetson came back an inning later to take its first lead of the game in the fifth inning, scoring three runs on four hits.

Logan Viers (8-6), who entered in relief of Paige Mathews and was charged with all three runs, took the loss for the Owls.

Kennesaw State, which totaled 10 hits, was led by senior Natalie Rhodes who had three hits and Taylor Denton, who collected two hits.

"I cannot wait for the opportunity to work with these returning players again in the fall," Acheson said. "I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Paige and Natalie. These are two seniors who set an example for the future of the Owl program. We are absolutely Owl Poud!!"

Chelsea Hostetler (20-9) earned the win for Stetson, which was led offensively by Drury who went two-of-five with three RBI.
