ROUND ONE RESULTS ( PDF) | ROUND TWO LIVE SCORING | ROUND TWO PAIRINGS OXFORD, Miss. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team opened the Rebel Intercollegiate with a 10-over par 298 on a windy Friday (April 3) and are tied for 10th following the first round at the par-72, 6,210-yard Ole Miss Golf Course.
"We had some quality play today, but lacked the depth we needed to really shot low," said head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead. "Our putting continues to hold us back and that is what we will work on this afternoon. This team is a group of such great ball strikers, but making putts is the key to winning events. I am very confident we will improve on today's score tomorrow. It was still a fun day on the course and considering the 35-plus miles per hour wind gusts and I am proud of the way they hung in the there.
Dulcie Sverdloff was clutch for us and I am very pleased for her as the results are coming due to the work she has been putting in."
Sverdloff continued her strong play to lead the Owls with a one-under par 71 in her opening round and is tied for seventh after registering four birdies on the day.
Freshman
Henriette Nielsen is tied for 26th after posting a two-over par 74, while sophomore
Laura Estefenn is one shot off of the Sorø, Denmark native after carding a three-over par 75 on Friday.
Seniors
Kaew Preamchuen and
Ines Lescudier round out the Owls with Preamchuen tied for 65th with a six-over par 78 in her opening round and Lescudier turning in a seven-over par 79 on the day.
No. 24 Furman leads the 17-team field after an even-par 288 in the first round, with No. 15 Texas A&M just one stroke off their pace with a one-over par 289 in their opening round. Fresno State rounds out the top three and is just two strokes off the leader after posting a two-over par 290 on Friday. The Golden Flashes' Josee Doyon leads all individuals after turning in a three-under par 69 in her first round.
