CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women's team opened the Hurricane Invitational with a 18-over par 302 in its first round on Monday (March 2) and sit in 14th place in the Miami-hosted tournament, held at the par-71, 6,070-yard Biltmore Golf Course.

"We are very unhappy with the play today," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "While we cannot control what other teams shoot and our place in the field, we can control our actions and our play today was well below our standards and expectations. We lacked execution and made poor decisions. The positive is we have two more rounds to regroup and this team will look ahead and move on. Our focus tomorrow will be to play simple golf and make smart decisions."

Sophomore Dulcie Sverdloff paced the Owls with three birdies on the back nine en route to a three-over par 74 in her opening round and is tied for 30th through 18 holes.

Freshman Henriette Nielsen continued her solid play and is in a tie for 39th after posting a four-over par 75 on Monday, while senior Ines Lescudier was one shot off of the Denmark native with a five-over par 76 and is tied for 48th through the first round.

Rounding out the Owls is sophomore Laura Estefenn, who sits in a tie for 60th after posting a six-over par 77 and senior Kaew Preamchuen, who fired a seven-over par 78 and is tied for 72nd.

With three players in the top three, Northwestern leads the team standings following a four-under par 280 team score in its opening round. Louisville sits three strokes off of the Wildcats after posting a one-under par 283 on day one. NU's Kaitlin Park and Hana Lee lead all individuals after carding three-under par 68s to open the tournament.

Second round action at the Hurricane Invitational continues tomorrow, Monday, March 3 with KSU's tee times beginning at 8:10 a.m. ET off of the No. 10 tee. Live scoring for the second round will be available HERE.
