TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team is just four strokes off of second place at the Florida State Match-Up and sits in seventh place following two rounds at the par-72, 6,236-yard Southwood Golf Course after recording a 12-over par 300 in its second round on Saturday (Feb. 14).

The Owls own a 36-hole total of 598 and are 22-over par for the tournament. In the Match-Up* team standings, the Owls and their partner team, Troy, are fifth with a 36-hole total of 761.

"Today was an interesting day on the course," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "We got off to a rocky start but were able to level it out and pick up some much needed birdies through nine holes. The course was tricky today and at times we did not make the best decisions, but overall I am pleased with the tenacity the team showed. I am very proud of Henri for birding 16 and 18. She has been working hard and her round today will help her confidence. Our goal tomorrow is to be patient yet aggressive and prove we belong among the nation's best."

Senior Ines Lescudier continues to lead KSU and is in a tie for ninth place after carding a one-over par 73 in her second and is two-over par with a 146 total through 36 holes.

Freshman Henriette Nielsen evened her career low round with a two-over par 74 on Sunday after registering birdies on two of her final three holes and is tied for 19th with a six-over par total of 150.

"Today was a struggle, but I am very pleased with the way I fought today and made birdies when it counted," said Nielsen. "The wind was confusing on the last six holes and I really had to focus and trust my swing. I have been working really hard on my game this off season and I am really pleased to contribute to the team."

Joining Nielsen in a tie for 19th at six-over par is sophomore Dulcie Sverdloff, who fired a five-over par 77 in her second round. Senior Kaew Preamchuen cut two strokes of her score with a four-over 76 in her second round and is tied for 33rd with a 10-over par total of 154. Sophomore Laura Estefenn rounds out the Owls with a seven-over par 79 on the day and is in a tie for 44th with an 11-over par total of 155.

South Carolina continues to lead in the team standings with an 11-over 299 in its second round and owns a 36-hole total of 591 at 15-over par. Florida State and Virginia are three strokes off of the Gamecocks with an 18-over par total of 594 after rounds of 295 and 294, respectively. * The Florida State Match-Up Tournament is a very unique event and the first one of its kind in NCAA Women's Golf.  When the invitations were sent out, six teams were initially invited to Tallahassee to play at the Southwood Golf Club. Those six teams were then able to contact a team member of their choice to partner up with them for the tournament. The twelve teams will tee off in twosomes for the first two rounds and then in a final round shotgun in threesomes. The Match-Up Portion of the tournament will be determined by taking the best four scores from the partners (which is a total of ten players) and the worst score to make the Match Up total. At the end of the tournament, the teams with the lowest score will win the Match Up.
