TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team started off its spring season in strong fashion as the Owls sit in a tie for third after posting a 10-over-par 298 in the first round of the Florida State Match-Up, held at the par-72, 6,236-yard Southwood Golf Course on Friday (Feb. 13).

It the Match-Up* team standings, the Owls and its partner team, Troy, are fifth with a score of 380 (73-73-76-76-82).

"I am very pleased with our results today," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "The team showed they have been putting in the work this offseason. One-through-five we had many highlights today and what I am most pleased about is no one played their best. It is a great feeling to coach a team that loves competing!"

Individually, senior Ines Lescudier and sophomore Dulcie Sverdloff led the Owls with a one-over par 73 in their opening rounds and are tied for third. Lescudier recorded four birdies on the day, including closing with birdies on the 16th and 18th holes, while Sverdloff started with back-to-back bogeys, before rebounding with a pair of birdies on the  back nine.

"After a rough start to my round I am very pleased with the way I came back and scored so well," said Sverdloff. "Having a positive attitude definitely helped me today. I did not play my very best, so I am excited to get back out there tomorrow and help the team succeed."

Sophomore Laura Estefenn and freshman Henriette Nielsen are tied for 24th after firing a four-over par 76, while senior Kaew Preamchuen posted a six-over par to sit in a tie for 44th after one round.

South Carolina leads the way in the team standings after shooting a four-over par 292 in its opening round, followed closely by Mississippi State with an eight-over par 296 and Coastal Carolina, who join the Owls in third place. Texas A&M's Bianca Fabrizio leads all individuals after firing a three-under par 69 to open the tournament.

Second round action at the Florida State Match-Up continues tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 14 with KSU's tee times beginning at 9:56 a.m. ET off of the No. 10 tee. Live scoring for the second round will be available HERE.

* The Florida State Match-Up Tournament is a very unique event and the first one of its kind in NCAA Women's Golf.  When the invitations were sent out, six teams were initially invited to Tallahassee to play at the Southwood Golf Club. Those six teams were then able to contact a team member of their choice to partner up with them for the tournament. The twelve teams will tee off in twosomes for the first two rounds and then in a final round shotgun in threesomes. The Match-Up Portion of the tournament will be determined by taking the best four scores from the partners (which is a total of ten players) and the worst score to make the Match Up total. At the end of the tournament, the teams with the lowest score will win the Match Up.
