FINAL RESULTS ( PDF) FORT COLLINS, COLO. – For the second-straight year, senior
Ines Lescudier was the top finisher for the Kennesaw State women's golf team at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic as the Owls concluded their 2014-15 season-opening tournament in eighth place with a final round score of 302 for a team total of 899 (+35) at the par-72, 6,230-yard Ptarmigan Country Club.
"As the weather got worse today, we as a team we did not handle it well," said head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead. "Through 12 holes we were pushing to break the top six. Unfortunately we again struggled over the final six holes giving back 10 strokes. With that said, I saw many positive things this week and I'm excited to get back on the road this weekend. This team is hugely talented and we will continue to work on the issues we have seen at this tournament. I am happy with the direction we are headed."
Lescudier registered 15 pars on the way to a one-over par 73 in her final round and concluded the 17-team event tournament in a tie for 19th with a 54-hole total of 222 at six-over par.
"Today was a great day for me," said Lescudier. " I hit 15 greens and 10 of them were less than 15-feet from the pin. My putting was kind of disappointing. I could have shot a lot lower, but it is the first tournament and I am not worried. The team did well. We could have done way better but it is definitely a good start for the season. We are looking forward to next tournament."
Reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year
Dulcie Sverdloff opened her sophomore campaign with an eight-over par total of 224 to finish in a tie for 23rd after firing a two-over par 74 in her final round.
Senior
Kaew Preamchuen and sophomore
Laura Estefenn both carded a six-over par 78 in their final rounds as Preamchuen finished in a tie for 32nd with a 10-over par total of 226 and Estefenn closed out with a 12-over par total of 228.
Senior
Mette Kryger Pedersen rebounded with a five-over par 77 on the final day and concluded the event with a 23-over par total of 239.
San Diego State led wire-to-wire to claim the team title with a six-over par score of 870 and recorded a eight-shot victory over UNLV, which finished second with a 14-over par total of 878. Colorado (881), Illinois (881) and Gonzaga (882) rounded out the top five.
The Aztecs' Emma Henrikson took home medalist honors with a five-under par 211 total after shooting an even-par 72 in her final round.
The Owls will next be in action at the Cardinal Cup, hosted by the University of Louisville on Sept. 15-16 in Louisville, Ky.
