Second Round Tee TimesROCKY FACE, Ga. – The senior trio of
Jimmy Beck,
Kelby Burton and
Austin Vick led the Kennesaw State men's golf team to the first-round lead at the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate that got underway Friday (Sept. 5) at the par-72, 7,012-yard The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga.

The KSU seniors combined to shoot 10-under par and help the Owls to a 7-under par 281 total and a one-shot lead over LSU in the 14-team event that includes six teams who advanced to the 2014 NCAA Championships, including defending national champion Alabama.

LSU finished with a 6-under par score of 282, while Alabama, North Carolina and Wake Forest are tied for third at 2-under par 286. Â Â

"We had a great start to the tournament today. The really exciting thing is that we all know we left a few shots out on the course but we are very happy to be in the position we are in," Kennesaw State head coach
Jay Moseley said. "I'm very proud of our seniors stepping up to play the way they did today. They have been a huge part of our program's development and it's great to see them play well."

Beck led the Owls charge as he fired a 4-under par 68 and is tied for third, one shot behind Chattanooga's Andrew Weathers and Benjamin Taylor of LSU who carded a 5-under 67. Burton and Vick are among a group of six players tied for fifth after shooting a 3-under 69.

Reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year
Teremoana Beaucousin opened with a 3-over par 75 while freshman
Fredrik Nilehn shot a 4-over par 76 in his collegiate debut.

Beck, Burton and Vick combined for 13-birdies and Burton produced an eagle on the par-5-15th hole.

The Carpet Capital Collegiate continues on Saturday with Kennesaw State grouped with LSU and Alabama and scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m. (ET) on the 1st hole. The Owls will be grouped LSU and Alabama. All the action can be followed live on the Internet at
