XC: Kennesaw State Cross Country Performs Well in Second Meet

Both Teams grab Top-10 Finishes

GAINESVILLE, Fla.
– The Kennesaw State men's and women's cross country team's displayed a tough second meet showing at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational as both squads grabbed Top-10 finishes at the Brad Bostick Golf Course.
 
Sophomore Kidan Kidane led the women's 5K race for the Owls, finishing 15th with a time of 17:52.33.

Freshman Katrine Rasmussen (18:07.27) finished 21st overall while Evelina Beramand (18:39.20) notched a 50th place finish. Freshman Joyce Mattagliano grabbed 56th place while senior Sydney Williams finished 63rd.

 The women finished with a184-point total in the sixth place finish. The Owls finished 159 points behind champion Florida.
 
"I thought the women executed the race plan well," Head Cross Country Coach Joel Pearson said. "They were really smart and strong and we had many personal best all across the board.  Kidan (Kidane) and Evalina (Beramand) continue to lead  our team with strong performances."

In the men's 8K race, Daniel Garcia lead the way for the Owls for the second consecutive meet, finishing second overall with a time of 24:25.70.

Fellow newcomer Dylan Titon was the next Owl to cross the finish line as he turned in a time of 25:08.00 to place 10th. Freshman Cameron Gatt placed 22nd, running a 25:36.07 while Jordan Hand grabbed a 63rd place finish with a time of 27:37.90. Veteran Natan Reuter  rounded out the top 5 to help the Owls secure fifth place overall.

 KSU placed 109 points behind champion Georgia Tech.
 
"The men were aggressive from the start." Pearson said. The team as whole has improved from last year as we continue to focus on getting ready for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships. Daniel (Garcia) was incredible in his first 8K race. He continues to show why our goal to make Nationals is very possible."

The Owls will next be in action on October 4th in Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
