Kaew Preamchuen and
Ines Lescudier paced the Kennesaw State women's golf team during the first two rounds of the Cardinal Cup on Monday (Sept. 15) at the par-72, 6,223-yard University of Louisville Golf Course.
The Owls carded rounds of 298-302 for a 24-over par total of 600 and sit in fourth place through 36 holes of play after leading the field with 26 birdies.
"We had some quality individual performances today, but collectively we are struggling to put it all together at the same time," said head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead. "Our execution is not where it needs to be, so that is our focus tomorrow. We need to play percentage golf and minimize our mistakes. I told the team post-round we are very close to performing to our standards, but need to continue making better decisions. I believe we will have a season low round tomorrow."
Preamchuen sits in second place and just one stroke behind 36-hole individual leader Michaela Fletcher of Middle Tennessee State after opening the tournament with rounds of 70-73 for a one-under par total of 143.
Lescudier was not far off her classmate, posting a three-over par total of 147 with rounds of 71-76 and is tied for seventh. The senior duo was two of only 11 golfers to post a sub-par round in the first two rounds of the tournament.
"I played very solid today," said Preamchuen. "My drive, approach shot and putting was solid and I only had a couple of bad holes throughout my rounds. I believe that the team will do well tomorrow. We have a strong team in this event and if we commit to the shot we play, I believe that we will do great tomorrow."
Sophomore
Laura Estefenn is tied for 34th after recording rounds of 79-74 for a total of 153 at nine-over par, while freshman
Henriette Nielsen made her collegiate debut on Monday, shooting 13-over par with rounds of 78-79 for a total of 157.
Sophomore
Dulcie Sverdloff and redshirt-senior
Hayley Clinning, playing as an individual, are tied for 64th with a 15-over par total of 159, with Sverdloff registering rounds of 79-80 and Clinning recording rounds of 81-78.
Middle Tennessee leads the 17-team event at eight over par with rounds of 289-295 and owns an 11-shot lead over host Louisville (Black) (+17) and Memphis (+18).
Third round action at the Cardinal Cup begins tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 16, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET. Live scoring for the final round will be available
