Tee TimesCHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior
Jimmy Beck led Kennesaw State during the first round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate that opened Friday (Sept. 12) at the par-72, 7,242-yard UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Owls senior standout carded a 4-under par round of 68 and is tied for fifth place, two shots back of Furman's Bryce Howell, who posted a 6-under 66 and holds a one-shot advantage of a trio of North Carolina players.

The host Tar Heels captured the first-round lead after shooting a 15-under 273 score and hold a nine-shot advantage Charlotte (282). Virginia Commonwealth, East Carolina and Chattanooga are tied for third at 2-under par 286.

Kennesaw State opened with a 1-over par 289 and is tied with Furman for ninth place in the 18-team event.

"Other than Jimmy, we didn't score very well today," Kennesaw State head coach
Jay Moseley said. "The course played very easy in my opinion and we just didn't get the ball in the hole. I like our chances to play much better tomorrow."

After posting a triple-bogey on the par-4 fourth hole, senior
Kelby Burton played the final 14-holes 3-under par to finish at even-par 72 and is tied for 30th.

Sophomore
Teremoana Beaucousin (73) is tied for 43rd, while senior
Austin Vick (75) is tied for 69th, and
Wyatt Larkin, who made his collegiate debut, shot a 4-over par 76 and is tied for 78th.

Freshman
Fredrik Nilehn, who is playing as an individual, recorded a first-round 72 and is tied for 30th.

The Tar Heel Intercollegiate continues with second-round action on Saturday with play scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. (ET). The Owls will be grouped with Furman, UNC Greensboro and Maryland. All the action can be followed live on the Internet at
