TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Kennesaw State junior Kaew Preamchuen carded an even-par 72 during Friday's second round of the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Golf East Regional that is being held at SouthWood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla.

Preamchuen, who has made program history by becoming the first Kennesaw State women's golfer to earn an NCAA Division I individual berth, tallied three birdies and three bogeys during her second round. The Owls junior got to 4-under par for the tournament after 26 holes, but three bogeys on her next four holes pushed her back to 1-under par through 30 holes.

However, Preamchuen played the final six holes in 1-under par and heads into Saturday's final round with a 2-under par total of 142 and tied for eighth, three shots behind Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse, who posted a 1-under par 71 and holds a one-shot lead at 5-under par 139. A total of 14 players are within three shots of the lead.

"I am so proud of Kaew's round today. She had to battle some tough conditions and difficult pins but prevailed," Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "She had two small hiccups but maintained her composure and finished her final six holes very well. The plan tomorrow is to be aggressive and attack the course to make birdies. We are confident she can shoot a number to claim a qualifying spot in the NCAA finals."

Despite a 1-over par round on Friday, Vanderbilt continues to lead the team standings with a 10-under par score of 566. The Commodores are six shots ahead of second-place Duke (572).

A total of 126 players comprise the field, including six who are playing as individuals. Eight teams and two individuals from non-qualifying teams will advance from each regional.

The championships finals will be held May 20-23 at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. and will be co-hosted by the University of Tulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commission.

The NCAA East Regional concludes on Saturday with Preamchuen scheduled to tee off at 8:40 a.m. (ET). All the action can be followed live on the Internet at www.golfstatresults.com.
