KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State junior Kaew Preamchuen turned in a solid opening round at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf East Regional that opened Thursday at the par-72, 6,257-yard SouthWood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla.

Aided by five birdies on her round, Preamchuen finished play with a 2-under par 70 and is tied for 13th, five shots behind Tulane's Emily Penttila, who opened with a 7-under par 65 and holds a two-shot advantage over Duke's Celine Boutier who carded a 5-under par 67.

"We are very pleased with Kaew's opening round. She has placed herself well overall," Brinsmead said. "Kaew had two errors that cost her bogeys but overall her play was very solid.

"Her strong point was her putting and she made some clutch birdie putts," Brinsmead added. "I was very impressed with her composure today and will look for her to maintain her solid play over the next two days."

After playing her first nine at 1-under par, Preamchuen birdied both par-5s on her second nine as she moved to 3-under par through 13 holes. She posted par on her next four holes before closing out her round with bogey on the par-4 ninth hole.

Vanderbilt leads the 24-team regional after posting an 11-under par 277 and holds a three-shot lead over Tulane (280). A total of 126 players comprise the field, including six who are playing as individuals. Eight teams and two individuals from non-qualifying teams will advance from each regional.

The championships finals will be held May 20-23 at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. and will be co-hosted by the University of Tulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commission.

Second-Round action of the 54-hole tournament is scheduled for Friday with Preamchuen scheduled to tee off at 1 p.m. (ET) on the 10th hole. All the action can be followed live on the Internet at www.golfstatresults.com.
