JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women's 4x100 team with
Martina Cernochova,
Alicia Whittle,
Hannah Wood and
Maileka Slayton qualified for the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon for the second year in a row.
"I'm very happy for our 4x1 relay team," Director of Track and Field
Andy Eggerth said. "With two new girls to the squad this year we were able to get back to the semifinals, and hopefully, we'll out perform what we accomplished last year and move on to the finals."
The team ran their fastest time of the season finishing in 44.74. NCAA Championships will start Wednesday, Jun 11 and run through Saturday, June 14.
"Last year we learned that we had to keep the training load a bit deeper into the year and so far it's worked out running a season best here," Eggerth added. "Tonight, we showed great discipline leaving on time for our exchanges, but we got out a little slow and hesitant. If our girls accelerate more aggressively they will make the finals. We just have to execute."
Andre Dorsey competed in the high jump and cleared 2.14m (7'2.5"). He ended up placing in 13
th place, missing out on qualifying by one spot. Despite not qualifying for the NCAA National Championships, Dorsey has had one of the most successful seasons of all time in an Owl uniform on the track.
"Andre has had a tremendous year," Eggerth said. "I think God is just saying its time to rest a bit. With him competing through last year into the US Championships and at such a high level this year, he simply hasn't had much opportunity to unload. Most of this outdoor season we had to play it day-to-day to get through. When you run an Indy car wide open with no stops for gas and tire changes, eventually you are forced to one way or the other. Fortunately, Andre is not injured and can get some well-deserved rest. This is frustrating for Andre because we all know his skills, but this will be a blessing as there are much bigger things in store for Andre!"
