VALDOSTA STATE RELEASEÂ
KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State assistant soccer coach
Rebecca Nolin has been named the next head coach of the Valdosta State soccer program, VSU Athletics Director Herb Reinhard announced on Wednesday.
Â
"I want to thank Coach King and Kennesaw State University for the amazing opportunities since my arrival to the States in 2003," said Nolin. "Coach King has helped guide and shape me into the coach I am today. I am excited to begin the next chapter as a head coach at Valdosta State University and I look forward to supporting the Owls as an Alumnus! Thanks to everyone at KSU for the support and friendships, I will miss you all dearly."
Â
Nolin heads to Valdosta State after serving four years on the Kennesaw State coaching staff as well as a member of the Kennesaw State soccer team from 2003 to 2006.
Â
"I am absolutely thrilled for Becks," said Kennesaw State soccer head coach
Rob King. "Over the past ten years, I have enjoyed seeing Rebecca grow and mature as a player, person and coach. She is joining a wonderful institution with great athletics leadership and I look forward to watching her write her own story as a head coach."
Â
Bringing a plethora of experience and passion on the pitch as both a collegiate and professional soccer player, Nolin will provide an exciting combination of both player and coaching knowledge to the Blazer women's soccer program. While earning a sports management degree at Kennesaw State, Nolin put together an impressive soccer career as a four-year letter-winner that included 16 career goals, four of which were game winners, along with 11 assists.
Â
Nolin excelled at both the Division I and II levels, as she received NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region and First Team All-Peach Belt honors in 2003 during her freshman campaign and All-Atlantic Sun Conference First-Team accolades during her senior year in 2006. Her freshman season was a memorable one, as she was a part of the Owls' 2003 NCAA Division II national championship squad. She would serve as the team's captain later on in her career.
Â
Following her success as a student-athlete at Kennesaw State, Nolin made the transition to the professional ranks with the Atlanta Silverbacks of the United Soccer League from 2007 to 2009 before joining the Atlanta Beat of the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league for its inaugural season in 2010. She made history on May 29, 2010Â when she scored the first goal at the then-KSU Soccer Stadium in the club's history. The following season, Nolin returned to the Silverbacks and helped lead the team to its first W-League title in franchise history, while also producing a goal and three assists during the 2011 campaign.
Â
A native of England, Nolin will take the helm as the leader of a 2014 Valdosta State team that includes a number of returnees, along with a 2014 signing class made up of 10 new additions.
