FINAL RESULTS

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –
After day one of the Atlantic Sun Championship, the Kennesaw State women's track and field team knew they had some ground to make up on Saturday. Despite a strong effort and an amazing comeback, they came up just short losing to Jacksonville by two points, marking the smallest margin between the top two teams in conference championship history.

"I'm really proud of our women for a hard fought battle," Director of Track and Field Andy Eggerth said. "We definitely made it an exciting meet. I tip my hat to Ron and his ladies at JU, as they always bring formidable competition year in and year out. There were really too many outstanding performances to comment on all of them. It's just very rewarding to me to see our girls see big PR's after all of the hard work they've put in."

Going into the 4x400 meter relay, the Owls had to win the race and needed a team other than Jacksonville to get in second in order to at least tie for the conference championship. The KSU relay team won the event by seven seconds, and JU was out of second place the entire race until the final 100 meters on the last leg to barely edge out the Owls.

The comeback started with the heptathlon when senior Christie Leverette won the event in exciting fashion. With the competition very tight, it came down to the 800m-dash where Sara McClimon jumped out to an early lead in the race and Leverette closed strong to claim the gold.

Hannah Wood won the 100m-dash by a tiny margin with a time of 11.85, and Alicia Whittle placed third in the event. In the 200m-dash, Whittle and Wood swapped places with Whittle winning the event and Wood placing third.

Andzelika Bobrova had a big PR in the 800m-dash when she crossed the line in 2:10.72 to win the gold.

The women's 4x100 team came in first place for the second straight year and will compete again in a couple of weeks at the NCAA Preliminaries on May 29-31.

The women totaled six event wins at the A-Sun Championships.
