Highlights and Interviews AUBURN, Ala. - Kennesaw State put together a solid team performance on Saturday to earn its second NCAA Championship appearance in the last four years.
The Owls finished second at the NCAA Division I Auburn Regional after carding a final-round 1-under par 287 to finish with an 11-over par total of 875 at the par-72, 7,254-yard Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala.
Kennesaw State posted the third-lowest round of the day and its best of the tournament to finish behind top-ranked and No. 1 seed Alabama, which captured the team title with an 11-under par total of 853. Auburn (878), Virginia Tech (882) and Texas (884) round out the top five to advance to the NCAA Championships that open on Friday (May 23) at Prarie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
The Owls will be appearing in the finals for the first since time since 2011 when they made their championship debut at Karsten Creek in Stillawater, Okla., and finished 26th out of 30 teams.
Kennesaw State placed three players in the top 20 as junior
Jimmy Beck (219) tied for 17th and junior
Kelby Burton and
Teremoana Beaucousin tied for 19th with a 4-over par totals of 220.
Beaucousin led the Owls during the final round as he carded a 2-under 70. Beck shot a 1-under 71 and freshman
Chris Guglielmo shot even-par during a round that included an eagle on the par-5, seventh hole and a 3-under 33 on the back nine.
Guglielmo at one pint in his round was 5-over par, but righted things and played is final 12 holes in 5-under par. As a team, the Owls played the back nine in 6-under par.
