After the Eagles (22-18, 6-8) grabbed an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single up the middle in game one's opening inning, the Owls (18-21, 7-9) evened up the score on an RBI single through the left side from senior
Angie Dascoli in the top of the third.
FGCU again took a one-run lead with a single to center field with runners on second and first for the 2-1 edge in the bottom of the third, before adding an insurance run on a solo home run to left field in the sixth frame. It would be all the Eagles needed as FGCU went on for the 3-1 win.
Senior pitcher
Amanda Henderson (14-8) took the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out three in six innings of work.
The Owls registered eight hits in the setback with junior
Natalie Rhodes and freshman
Taylor Denton leading KSU with two hits each.
Shelby Morgan (8-5) earned the win in a complete game effort as Chelsea Zgrabik and Brittney Garabedian posted a pair of hits for the Eagles.
Denton opened the scoring in game two as singles from senior
Carly Van Auken and Rhodes put runners at first and third before a sacrifice fly from the freshman plated Van Auken for the 1-0 lead in the third.
Just a half inning later, FGCU evened up the game with a pair of hits in the bottom of the third. The Eagles then broke the tie with a two-run long ball to left center field for the 3-1 advantage in the fifth. It would be all the home team needed as FGCU took the 3-1 victory in game two.
Junior pitcher
Paige Mathews (3-10) gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings to take the loss.
KSU put up five hits in the contest as Rhodes, Denton, Dascoli, Van Auken and sophomore
Megan Veringa recorded a hit in the game.
Amanda Josie (7-6) went seven innings in the win for the Eagles, who got two hits from Kelsey Carpenter and two RBI from Chelsea Zgrabik.
The Owls and the Eagles wrap up the series with a single game tomorrow, Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m. ET at the FGCU Softball Complex.
