BOX SCORE (XML) | BOX SCORE (PDF) ATLANTA, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team suffered an 8-0 five-inning setback to Georgia Tech in the Owls' final nonconference contest of the season on Wednesday night (April 23) at Mewborn Field.
KSU falls to 22-26 on the season, while GT improves to 23-20.
The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring with an RBI single to shortstop for the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
GT then added seven runs in the bottom of the fifth frame on seven hits, including a game-ending two-run home run to left field from Ashley Thomas that sent the home team to the 8-0 victory.
Junior
Natalie Rhodes registered the Owls' lone hit of the game, a bunt single to third base in the top of the third inning.
Junior pitcher
Paige Mathews (4-13) took the loss, giving up all eight runs on 11 hits, while striking out three in four and two-thirds innings of work.
Kylie Kleinschmidt (15-11) earned the win for GT, who got a 2-of-3 performance plus two runs and two RBI from Thomas.
KSU returns to Bailey Park for its final regular season series of the season as the Owls host East Tennessee State in a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27. KSU and ETSU will play a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by the regular season finale on Sunday with first pitch for both days set for 1 p.m. ET. Prior to the start of Saturday's first pitch, the Owls will celebrate senior day 2014 as seniors
