BRASELTON, Ga. – Behind a 3-under par 69 from freshman
Teremoana Beaucousin, Kennesaw State captured the first-round lead of the 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Golf Championships that opened Sunday at the par-72, 7,032-yard Legends Course at Chateau Elan Golf Club in Braselton.
The Owls posted an even-par 288 total and hold a two-shot advantage over Mercer, which recorded a 2-over par 290. North Florida (295) is in third and followed by East Tennessee State (299), Jacksonville (304), Lipscomb (307) and USC Upstate (311). Florida Gulf Coast and Northern Kentucky are tied for eighth at 312 and Stetson (318) sits in 10th place after 18 holes.
Beaucousin, who shot an even-par 36 on his opening nine holes and recorded four birdies on his back nine, was one of five players to record under-par rounds. The Kennesaw State freshman holds a two-shot advantage over teammate
Jimmy Beck, Mercer teammates Emmanuel Kountakis and Trey Rule, and defending A-Sun Conference champion MJ Maguire of North Florida. All four players carded 1-under par rounds of 71.
The 69 by Beaucousin marks his third career sub-par round of his collegiate career. He shot a career-best 67 during the second round of the Pinetree Collegiate and posted a 69 during the second round of the Linger Longer Invitational.
Beck registered a 2-under par 34 on his second nine that included a pair of birdies. The junior's lone blemish on his round came on the second hole he recorded a double bogey en route to an opening nine-hole score of 1-over par 37.

Austin Vick closed with three straight birdies to finish with a 1-over par 73 and is tied for sixth. Redshirt junior
Kelby Burton (75) is tied for 17th, while freshman
Chris Guglielmo (77) is tied for 26th
