STATESBORO, Ga. – It was a noteworthy night for the Kennesaw State baseball pitching staff on Wednesday night as the Owls held the nation's top offense scoreless, pitching a 3-0 shutout for the win while holding the Eagles to just two hits.

The Owls, who improve to 14-18 on the year, held the Eagles scoreless for just the second time this season while also handing GSU its 10th loss of the year with the shutout win.

Freshman Chris Erwin picked up the victory from the hill, going five innings allowing both GSU hits while striking out six, setting his record at 2-1 on the year. Will Lowman, James Connell, Will Solomon and Justin McCalvin went the final four innings while not allowing a hit, Solomon striking out four in two innings and McCalvin earning his fourth save of the year.

KSU put up its first run in the top of the first as Jacob Bruce knocked his first triple of the season off of the right field wall and was driven in by Max Pentecost's RBI double for a 1-0 lead, Pentecost earning his 12th double of the year while extending his hit streak to 13 games.

The Owls then added a pair more to the scoreboard in the seventh, Pentecost again sending home Bruce with an RBI single followed by Bo Way coming up with the clutch two-out hit to bring home Pentecost for a 3-0 KSU advantage.

Georgia Southern, who sinks to 21-10 this season, threatened in the seventh, but the Owls held strong, slamming the door on the Eagles with the stout relief pitching.

Bruce and Pentecost each came up with two hits, Bruce scoring two and Pentecost driving in a pair. Of the seven KSU hits, three were for extra bases with Bruce's triple and doubles from Pentecost and Alex Liquori.

The Owls remain on the road through this weekend, starting off a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series at Florida Gulf Coast this Friday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
