WT: Apostu/Stein Doubles Team Completes Undefeated A-Sun Conference Season

Duo Helps Owls Record 4-3 Win at USC Upstate on Saturday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Highlighted by the stellar play of the No. 1 doubles tandem of senior Alexandra Apostu and junior Virginie Stein, the Kennesaw State women's tennis team closed out its 2014 season with a 4-3 victory over USC Upstate Saturday at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex in Spartanburg, S.C.
 
Apostu and Stein teamed to post an 8-4 victory over Isabel Von Stryk and Anna Zoske to finish off an undefeated A-Sun Conference record at 8-0. The duo completed its dual-match schedule with a 10-2 mark.
 
"I am extremely happy for Alex and Virginie," Kennesaw State head coach Jeff Kutac said. "They have worked really hard to get to the level that they are playing, and to go undefeated in conference is quite an accomplishment."
 
Freshman Gabriela Bueno and sophomore Isabela Bueno posted an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles to help the Owls (6-13, 2-6) capture the doubles point.
 
In singles play, junior Jana Hueckinghaus defeated Tailia Rojas, 6-3, 7-5 to clinch the match for Kennesaw State.
 
Apostu and junior Tamara Plocher also recorded victories at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Apostu registered a 6-2, 6-1 win, while Plocher posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
 
"It was great that our two graduating players were able to post wins today," Kutac said. "Alex and Tamara have been valuable contributors to the program and I want to thank them for everything they have given to the team.

"It was also great to finish the season off with a win," Kutac added. "The win will give us confidence as we prepare for next year as we set our goals on improving and taking our performances to the next level."
