KENNESAW, Ga. – Junior All-American Max Pentecost went 4-for-4 and sophomore right-hander Jordan Hillyer turned in a solid effort on the mound to lead Kennesaw State to a 6-3 victory over visiting Stetson in the opener of a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series at Stillwell Stadium on Friday.
 
Pentecost, who extended his conference-leading hitting streak to 18 games, ignited an 11-hit attack by the Owls (17-20, 3-9) with a first-inning two-run home run to left-center field and followed it up with three more hits to finish the night with four RBI. The junior catcher's hitting highlighted an impressive offensive output by the top three hitters in Kennesaw State's lineup.
 
The trio of Alex Liquiori, Jacob Bruce and Pentecost combined to go 8-for-12 with five runs scored.
 
That offense proved to be enough for Hillyer (3-3) and three relievers as Kennesaw State extended its winning streak to three. Hillyer worked 6.1 innings, scattered nine hits, three runs (one earned), did not walk a batter and struck out six.
 
Junior right-hander Justin McCalvin pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his fifth save of the season.
 
The Owls added single runs in the third and fourth innings and scored their final two runs in the sixth as Pentecost singled home his fourth run of the game, following singles by Liquori and Bruce.
 
Mitchell Jordan (2-5) suffered the loss for the Hatters (14-21, 3-7) after pitching 3.2 innings, allowing five hits, four runs, two walks and striking out three.
 
Kennesaw State and Stetson continue their weekend series on Saturday (Apr. 12) with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
