KENNESAW, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State softball team opened its 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference schedule on a positive note as it swept a doubleheader from visiting North Florida Saturday afternoon at Bailey Park in Kennesaw.

The Owls (10-9, 2-0) rallied from a six-run deficit to take the opener, 10-9, before capitalizing on a two-out error in the late innings to post a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.

Senior right-hander Amanda Henderson earned the victories in both games as she improved to 9-4 on the season after starting the opener and pitching 2.2 innings of relief in the second game.

After falling behind 6-0 in the first inning of game one, Kennesaw State chipped away at the Ospreys (15-7, 1-4), scratching out a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first and three more in the second inning to make it a one-run game at 6-5.

North Florida countered with a run in the third inning before the Owls exploded for five runs in the fifth inning to take their first lead of the game at 10-7.  Sophomore Megan Veringa had a key blow in the inning as she connected for a two-run home run to left-center field that tied the score at 7-7.

A two-out walk to sophomore Kara Chambers was followed by three consecutive hits by junior Natalie Rhodes, freshman Taylor Denton and senior Angie Dascoli that plated three more runs. Denton had a run-scoring single and Dascoli had a two-run triple.

In the nightcap, Kennesaw State broke a 3-3 tie when Dascoli's ground ball went through the legs of North Florida shortstop Ashley Holton for a two-run error that scored Rhodes and Denton who each singled with two outs.

The Owls scored first in the second game as they scored single in each of the first three innings. After scoring a run in the fourth, the Ospreys tied the game 3-3 in the fifth on a two-run home run to left field by Mariah Reynolds. It was the third homer of the day for Reynolds, who it a pair in the opener, including a grand slam in the first inning. She finished the doubleheader 3-for-6 with seven RBI.

Kennesaw State will go for the series sweep when it hosts North Florida at Bailey Park on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. (ET).
