KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team posted a closing-round 8-over par 292 to finish at 26-over par 878 and place fifth at the 18-team Hurricane Invitational that concluded Wednesday (Mar. 5) at the par-71, 6,092-yard Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla.

The Owls, who recorded rounds of 289-297-292, registered their second straight top five showing. Eighteenth-ranked Northwestern claimed the team title with a 54-hole total of 12-over 864 to edge No. 25 Iowa State (865) by one shot. Host and No. 30 Miami (874) finished third and Campbell (877) placed fourth.

"Overall the team put together a solid round relative to the field while in tougher conditions and pin placements," Kennesaw State head coach #Rhyll Brinsmead said. "Again we had a poor finish, dropping six strokes on the last three holes.  We also played Holes 16 and 18 under par, so there are many positives.

"This was a very important tournament for us to finish in the top five and earn some head-to-head wins over ranked opponents," Brinsmead added. "We beat some teams we had never defeated before and showed what this team is capable of accomplishing."

Kennesaw State was led by junior Ines Lescudier who turned in her highest finish of the season as she placed fourth with an even-par score of 213, two shots behind Miami's Daniela Darquea and Iowa State's On-Iam who concluded the tournament at 2-under par 211. Middle Tennessee's Avery George finished third with a 1-under par 212.

Junior Kaew Preamchuen tied for 13th with a 4-over par 217 after posting a final-round 2-under par 69 that included four birdies.

Freshman Dulcie Sverdloff (224) tied for 35th while redshirt junior Hayley Clinning (226) tied for 45th and freshman Laura Estefenn (239) placed 86th.

"Ines and Kaew were clutch today and both deserved to finish as they did in the top 15 individually," Brinsmead said. "We have a very quick turnaround to our next event and I'm excited about the momentum we have."

The quick turnaround will take Kennesaw State to Honolulu, Hawaii, where they Owls will compete in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational that opens Tuesday (Mar. 11) at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
