KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team suffered a 2-0 setback to rival Georgia Southern on Wednesday night (March 5) at Bailey Park.
 
Eagle pitcher Sarah Purvis (7-2) registered a perfect game as she did not allow a hit or a base runner in a complete game effort, while posting nine strikeouts in the outing.
 
"Paige Mathews threw a heck of a game for us tonight," said head coach Wes Holly, Jr. "We had a couple of errors and a single and that was the ball game. Credit goes to the Georgia Southern pitcher. She really spun the ball well and had some very good movement on the ball that our players did not adjust and handle well tonight. We will get back to work tomorrow and see if we can fix the hitting issue, see if we can get that a little more consistent for the upcoming Atlantic Sun Conference opener and get rolling in the conference."
 
GSU scored the game's only runs in the top of the second on a two-run double to left center from AJ Hamilton after a single and an Owl error put two Eagles on base with one out in the inning.
 
Junior pitcher Paige Mathews allowed only four hits and one earned run in seven innings, while totaling four strikeouts in her best outing of the season.
 
The Owls continue their seven-game home stand as they look to league play with a bang when they face North Florida in a three-game series this weekend. KSU and UNF will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 8, followed by a single game on Sunday, March 9. Game time is set for 1 p.m. for both days.
