CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior Ines Lescudier carded a 1-under par  70 to lead the Kennesaw State women's golf team during Tuesday's second-round play at the 18-team Hurricane Invitational that is being contested at the par-71, 6,092-yard Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla.

Lescudier's effort helped the Owls move into sixth place with an 18-over par total of 586, 15 shots behind No. 25 Iowa State, which leads the tournament with a 3-over par score of 571. Eighteenth-ranked Northwestern (574) is in second and followed by No. 30 Miami (579). Mercer and Campbell are tied for fourth at 17-over par 585.

After beginning the day tied for 15th, Lescudier's 1-under 70 moved her into a tie for sixth with an even-par total of 142. She is four strokes behind Iowa State's Sasikarn On-Iam, who leads the individual standings with a 4-under par score of 138. Middle Tennessee's Avery George (139) is one-shot back while Miami's Daniela Darquea is in third at 2-under par 140.

"Today's round was very frustrating. We got off to a very solid start as a team but faltered mid round and made some mistakes that cost us," Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "On the positive side, the team rallied on the back nine. After making the turn at 10-over par, we managed to play the back nine at 3-over par as we made some clutch birdies that were invaluable."

Junior Kaew Preamchuen (148) is tied for 32nd, while freshman Dulcie Sverdloff and redshirt-junior Hayley Clinning are tied for 39th with 7-over par scores of 149. Freshman Laura Estefenn (157) is tied for 80th.

"Ines had a great round today and she's positioned herself well to make a charge at the individual title," Brinsmead said. "Our goal tomorrow (Wednesday) is to finish in the top three and earn some head-to-head wins we need over some higher ranked teams."

The tournament concludes on Wednesday as Kennesaw State will be grouped with Campbell and Mercer and is scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m. in a shotgun start. All the action can be followed live on the internet at www.golfstatresults.com.
