KENNESAW, Ga.
– With a go-ahead RBI double from Brennan Morgan and 13 strikeouts from the pitching staff, the Kennesaw State baseball team nabbed a 3-0 win over cross-town rival Georgia State at home on Tuesday night.

Morgan's double went down the right field line to score Jacob Bruce in the bottom of the sixth to break the scoreless ballgame, improving the Owls to 8-6 on the season while dropping the Panthers to 6-6.

Bruce started off the inning with a single followed by a stolen base to put the left fielder in scoring position, the third stolen bag on the night for KSU.

The Owls added on two more in the seventh for good measure, Justin Motley starting things off with a free pass the hard way, taking a Kenny Anderson fastball to the ribs to get on first.

Alex Liquori then laid down the sacrifice bunt to move Motley to third before a Kal Simmons single to center field put the Owls up by a pair. Bruce then shot a sacrifice fly to center to score pinch hitter Colin Bennett for the final run of the contest, handing KSU the 3-0 win.

In what was a 13 strikeout night for the Kennesaw State pitching staff, middle reliever Justin McCalvin took the win after lasting 1.1 innings of hitless ball to move to 2-1 on the year. McCalvin replaced Chris Erwin who lasted three innings giving up just three hits and striking out five.

In the eighth it was James Connell who closed the book on the Panthers, earning the first save of the season for the pitching staff after notching the last six outs while striking out four.

From the plate it was Simmons along with designated hitter Max Pentecost who each put up two hits, Simmins driving in a run and Pentecost earning the stolen base.

Morgan was the only Owl to put up a hit for extra bases with his RBI double, his third of the season.

The Owls will be back in action this Friday, March 7, as KSU hosts Columbia in a three-game series. Friday's 4 p.m. ET contest will be the first all you can eat game where $21 gets the fans in the gate with unlimited concession stand items.
