GREENVILLE, S.C. – The No. 36-ranked Kennesaw State men's golf team's bid for a second tournament victory during the 2013-14 season fell short as it found difficulty coming down the stretch and had to settle for a third place finish at the 17-team Furman Intercollegiate that concluded Sunday at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

The Owls shot 4-over par on the back nine and finished the 36-hole event with a 2-under par 862, seven shots behind Georgia State and No. 10 Virginia Tech. The Panthers and Hokies tied for first with a 9-under par totals of 855 after a shooting final-round 1-under par score of 287.

"It was a disappointing finish but we can use this experience to help us down the road," Kennesaw State head coach Jay Moseley said. "In my opinion, we were the best team this week but we have to perform better because we are capable of much more than we showed."

Junior Jimmy Beck shot a closing-round even-par 72 to finish at 4-under par 212 and tie for fourth, seven shots behind individual medalist Trevor Cone of Virginia Tech who totaled an 11-under par 205. Georgia State's J.J. Grey finished second with a 10-under par 206.

Junior Austin Vick shot an even-par 72 to conclude play at even-par 216 and in 10th place. Redshirt-junior #Kelby Burton posted the low round of the day for Kennesaw State, carding a 1-under par 71 to 11th place 1-over par 217.

Freshmen Teremoana Beaucousin (222) and Chris Guglielmo (226) tied for 26th and 54th, respectively.

Sophomore #Carlos Segura Oliva, who was playing as an individual, shot a career-low 18-hole score of 5-under par 67 to tie for 26th at 6-over par 222.

Kennesaw State competes in its final tournament before the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships when it opens play in the Mason Rudolf Invitational on April 4 in Nashville, Tenn.
