GREENVILLE, S.C. – Junior Austin Vick posted a first-round 2-under par 70 to lead the No. 36-ranked Kennesaw State men's golf team during the opening round of the 18-team Furman Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

Vick's performance helped the Owls to a fourth-place standing after 18 holes and into fourth place. KSU posted an even-par total of 288 and is three shots behind No. 10 Virginia Tech. The Hokies carded a 3-under par 285 and hold a two-shot advantage of USC Upstate and Georgia State. Both the Spartans and Panthers are at 1-under par 287.

Vick currently stands four strokes behind Virginia Tech's Trevor Cone who posted a 6-under par 66 and holds a two-shot lead over Western Carolina's J.T. Poston (68). Temple's Brandon Matthews and Georgia State's J.J. Grey are tied for third at 3-under par 69.

"We had a mixed bag of results today.  We did some things well but we definitely left some shots on the course," Kennesaw State head coach Jay Moseley said. "Tomorrow (Saturday) we just need to do a better job taking advantage of scoring opportunities and make some more putts.  We have to be pleased with our position considering that we didn't play all that well today.  There is a lot more golf to play this week so we just need to stay patient and play our best."

Freshman Chris Guglielmo turned in a 1-under par 71 and tied for eighth, while junior Jimmy Beck recorded a 1-over par 73 and is tied for 28th. Redshirt junior Kelby Burton (74) is tied for 46th, freshman Teremoana Beaucousin (75) is tied for 60th, and sophomore Carlos Segura Oliva, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 91st after shooting a 6-over par 78.

The Furman Intercollegiate continues on Saturday with second-round action beginning at 8 a.m. (ET). The Owls are grouped with Furman and Winthrop and will begin play on the first tee. The tournament can be followed live on the internet at www.golfstatresults.com.
