KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team suffered a pair of setbacks as the Owls fell 2-0 and 5-0 to Lipscomb in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Saturday afternoon (March 22) at Bailey Park.
Â
The Owls drop to 15-14 on the season and 5-3 in league play, while the Bisons improve to 26-4 and 8-2 in the conference.
Â
It was a pitcher's duel to open the first three innings of game one as neither team could produce a run until the Bisons plated the game's first score on a solo home run to right center in the third inning. The Owls threatened in the second inning with two runners on and one out, before senior
Bianca Durant flied into a double play as senior
Angie Dascoli was thrown out at the plate on the play.
Â
The Owls again put two runners on in the sixth inning as senior
Carly Van Auken doubled to left center, followed by a single through the right side from sophomore
Kara Chambers, but KSU would not be able to take advantage as Lipscomb took its 1-0 lead into the seventh inning.
Â
The visitors then added an insurance run in the inning on an RBI-Triple to center field as Lipscomb went on for the 2-0 victory.
Â
Both teams totaled five hits in the contest, with Van Auken leading the way for the Owls with two hits.
Â
Senior pitcher
Amanda Henderson (12-5) struck out seven, while holding Lipscomb to only five hits and two earned runs in a complete game effort.
Â
Ashley Anderson (11-0) earned the win in seven innings of work as Haley Elliott went 2-of-3 with a run and an RBI for Lipscomb.
Â
The Bisons started the scoring in the day's second game on an RBI-double in the third inning, before taking a 2-0 lead in the fifth on a single through the left side. Lipscomb then added three runs in the top of the sixth on a pair of hits and two KSU miscues as Bisons pitcher Heather Parker kept the Owls off the bases until the sixth inning.
Â
Sophomore
Missy Perkowski and freshman
Taylor Denton registered the two Owl hits in the contest, with KSU committing three errors in the setback.
Â
Junior pitcher
Paige Mathews (2-6) went all seven innings, giving up 10 hits, five runs, including only one earned run, while striking out six in the losing effort.
Â
Parker (7-2) collected the win in a complete game effort for the Bisons, who got three hits and an RBI from Mimi Cartwright.
Â
The Owls and the Bisons will wrap-up the three-game series tomorrow, Sunday, March 23 at 1 p.m. ET in Bailey Park.
