WT: Owls Compete Well in 4-3 Loss to Chattanooga on Thursday

Stein, Apostu Record wins in Singles Play

MARIETTA, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's tennis team turned in a solid effort against Chattanooga but came up on the short end of a 4-3 decision in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon at Fair Oaks Park in Marietta.
 
The Owls (5-8) opened the match on a winning note as they claimed the doubles point, posting victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Junior Virginie Stein and senior Alexandra Apostu recorded an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while junior Jana Hueckinghaus and sophomore Blaire LaSure posted an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot.
 
"It's the best we've competed as a team all year," head coach Jeffery Kutac said. "To get the doubles point and to come short was disappointing. However, the team continues to compete and is heading in the right direction.
 
"The team and I really want to thank the lacrosse and men's tennis teams for coming out and supporting us today," Kutac added. "We have received phenomenal support from other KSU teams, administrators, coaches and staff all year, and it really means a lot to our players and makes a difference."
 
In singles action, Stein and Apostu posted wins ant at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Stein defeated Kayla Jones, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, and Apostu bested Kaylene Chadwell, 6-1, 6-2. Chattanooga (11-2) captured wins at No. 3 through 6 singles to clinch the victory.
 
Kennesaw State is off until is off until Mar. 28 when it travels to Fort Myers, Fla., to take on Florida Gulf Coast in an Atlantic Sun Conference match beginning at 11 a.m. (ET).
