CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Kennesaw State softball team closed out the USF-Under Armour Invitational with an 8-0 setback to No. 14 Stanford on Sunday morning (March 2) at the EC Moore Softball Complex.

The Cardinal struck first in the third as an Owl error kept the inning alive for a three-run home run from Bessie Noll for the 3-0 lead.

Stanford added two runs in the fifth as Cassandra Roulund tripled down the right field line after two hit-by-pitches put two on with two outs in the inning. The Cardinal wrapped up the scoring with three runs on five hits in the seventh to take the 8-0 win.

KSU loaded the bases in three different innings, but was unable to push a run across and stranded a total of 10 base runners in the contest.

Senior pitcher
Amanda Henderson (7-4) started and took the loss, giving up three unearned runs and two hits, while striking out five in three innings of work. Junior
Paige Mathews and sophomore
Morgan Sikes each pitched two innings of relief, as Mathews allowed two runs and two hits, while Sikes gave up three runs and five hits.

The Owls registered six hits and an error in the game, with freshman
Taylor Denton posting a pair of hits and sophomore
Megan Veringa notching a double.

The Cardinal put up nine hits and two errors as Madi Schreyer earned the win.

Kennesaw State next returns to Bailey Park for a midweek contest against Georgia Southern on Wednesday, March 5 at 6 p.m. ET.
