KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State senior women's Track and Field athlete Christie Leverette (Marietta, Ga. / Marietta HS.) has been named the recipient of the Owls of Excellence Award for the month of March, the Department of Athletics announced on Thursday.

The Owls of Excellence Award was instituted in August of 2012 and established to recognize Kennesaw State student-athletes who excel in their chosen sport, in the classroom, and provide service to the community. A different student-athlete is honored and featured monthly on the Department of Athletics' website, KSUOwls.com.

Leverette was the 2012 Atlantic Sun Women's Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She was not only successful in the classroom, but was very successful on the track as she won the A-Sun high jump championship during the 2012 indoor and outdoor seasons.

During her time at Kennesaw State, Leverette has provided leadership as a captain of the track team during the 2012-2013 season. She displayed this quality in the community as well by volunteering at VKSU and SGA annual Day of Service Event called The Big Event, as well as GSU's daycare Development Center and Horizon League.

Leverette's strong character is a trait that helps her to be a leader on the team, her ability to stay self-motivated carries over to her teammates enabling her to bring the best out of them all. She is always willing to help, and the coaches know she is a person to depend on anytime something is asked of her.

Leverette, a KSU Graduate, earned her degree in Integrative Studies with an exceptional 4.0 grade-point average in the spring semester of 2013.
