SB: Owls Looking to Continue Winning Ways at Georgia State

KSU and Panthers Meet for Second Time This Season on Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET

The Kennesaw State softball team will look to continue its winning ways as the Owls wrap a four-game road swing with the short drive to Atlanta to take on regional rival Georgia State on Tuesday night (March 18). First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at the Robert E. Heck Softball Complex with

THE OPPONENT:
Georgia State
The Panthers snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Coastal Carolina in their last outing on Saturday, March 15 at the Chanticleer Showdown in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Offensively Georgia State is led by Taylor Anderson Lauren Coleman. Anderson owns a team-high .397 batting average and 29 hits, while Coleman ranks leads the Panthers with 25 RBIs and five home runs. Kaitlyn Medlam is the Panthers' ace in the circle with a 7-6 record and a team-low 3.02 ERA. She has struck out 67 batters and given up 35 earned runs in 81 innings. On the season, the Panthers own a staff ERA of 4.53 in 156 total innings. GSU is 12-12 on the season with a 5-3 mark at Heck Softball Field.
 
THE SERIES:
The Owls hold a 16-11 advantage in the overall series with the Panthers, including a thrilling 7-6 come-from-behind seventh inning victory over GSU in the teams' earlier meeting this season during the 2014 Kennesaw State-Georgia Tech Crossover on Feb. 22. Down 6-1 heading into the top of the seventh the Owls scored six runs as sophomore Megan Veringa capped the comeback with a grand slam for the 7-6 lead. Senior pitcher Amanda Henderson entered in the bottom of the inning to secure the comeback win.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Owls dominated in their first conference road series, as they took all three games against Northern Kentucky in Highland Heights, Ky. KSU outscored the Norse 36-8, including back-to-back five-inning run rule victories. The Owls registered wins of 17-7, 9-1 and 10-1 in the series as junior Paige Mathews secured her first two wins in the Black and Gold, including holding the Norse to a single hit in the Owls' series finale win on Sunday. Offensively, KSU had six players register batting averages at .400 or higher, led by sophomore Kara Chambers' .667 to go along with eight hits and eight runs on the weekend.
 
NEXT UP:
The Owls return to Bailey Park for a three-game conference series with Lipscomb on Saturday and Sunday, March 22-23. KSU and the Bisons will play a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday with both days starting at 1 p.m. ET.
 
NEWS AND NOTES:
Dascoli Heating Up
Senior Angie Dascoli leads the Owls and ranks third in the A-Sun with a .392 batting average and is the co-leader with 29 hits.
 
Henderson Leads the Way
Senior pitcher Amanda Henderson ranks in the top seven in the conference in several categories, including leading the league with 12 wins on the season, second in strikeouts (102), appearances (17) and innings pitched (80.1), fourth in opposing batting average (.182) and seventh in ERA (1.92). 
 
Double Sutter
Sophomore Courtney Sutter sits third in the league with seven doubles, while ranking ninth with a .620 slugging percentage. Her 19 RBIs lead the Owls in that category.
 
Mathews in the Circle
Junior pitcher Paige Mathews leads the conference with 12 games started and 20 appearances and ranks second with eight games in relief.
 
Win Streak
The Owls are on a four-game winning streak after sweeping their first Atlantic Sun Conference series over the weekend at Northern Kentucky.
