HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Kennesaw State softball team continued its hot streak at the plate as the Owls swept the Atlantic Sun Conference season series with Northern Kentucky with a 10-0 drilling on a cold and windy Sunday morning (March 16) at Grein Softball Field.

It was the second-straight five-inning run rule victory for the Owls, who improve to 15-11 on the season a 5-1 in the A-Sun. The Norse fall to 2-17 and 0-6 in the league as KSU outscored NKU 36-8 on the weekend.

Sophomore Kara Chambers opened the contest with a bunt single to the pitcher, before advancing to third on a Norse throwing error. She was plated a batter later on a sacrifice bunt from junior Natalie Rhodes for the early 1-0 lead.

The KSU scoring continued in the second as sophomore Courtney Sutter led off the second with her team-leading fourth home run of the season, followed by a RBI-single from sophomore Missy Perkowski.

The Owls then doubled the score in the third as senior Angie Dascoli doubled to start the inning and was then brought home on an RBI-single from Sutter. A batter later, sophomore Megan Veringa tied Sutter with her fourth long ball of the season for the 6-0 edge.

KSU posted three more runs in the fourth and a single run in the fifth as junior pitcher Paige Mathews was dominate in the circle to lead the Owls to the 10-0 fifth-inning victory and her second-straight win of the season.

Mathews (2-4) allowed just one hit and struck out five in five innings of work as the junior did not allow a hit or a base runner until the fourth inning.

The Owls registered their third-straight double-digit hit total with 12 on Sunday, with Sutter and Veringa leading the visitors with two hits and three RBIs in the win. Redshirt-senior Sara Sikes added a game-high three hits.

Alex Caudill (0-9) took the loss for NKU.
