THE SERIES:
The Kennesaw State baseball starts off Atlantic Sun Conference play this weekend, heading to Macon, Ga. for a three-game weekend series against rival Mercer.
 
First pitch between the Owls and the Bears on Friday is set for 6 p.m. ET followed by a 2 p.m. ET game on Saturday and a 1 p.m. ET start time on Sunday between the league's top two squads.

THE OPPONENT:
Mercer is tops in the A-Sun with its 15 wins this season and is led by Sasha LaGarde, who is pacing the team in nearly every offensive category.

LAST OUTING
It took an extra three innings of work for the Kennesaw State baseball team on Tuesday night, but the Owls walked away winners in 12 innings, 4-3, over Western Carolina at Stillwell Stadium.

The Kennesaw State baseball team returns home on  Tuesday, March 18 for a 6 p.m. ET midweek clash with Georgia Tech at Stillwell Stadium.

NEWS AND NOTES:
Owls in the Nation
The Owls remain at third in the nation and first in the A-Sun in the total hits column, belting 202 through the first 20 games of the season. The Owls currently hold three of the top five spots in the hits category in the A-Sun, Jacob Bruce and Max Pentecost tied for the league lead with 27.
 
Morgan being Clutch
Brennan Morgan now has a pair of game-winning hits for KSU, driving in the winning runs against Georgia State and Western Carolina.
 
Owls in Extras
KSU has now played five extra-inning games in 2014, posting a 3-2 record when the day goes longer than nine innings. So far a quarter of all games played have gone into extras.
 
Playing Well
KSU holds one of the most well-rounded teams, hitting .272 as a squad with a staff ERA of 3.02.

Stolen Bases
Along with the offensive production, KSU also leads the league in stolen bases, taking 25 bags in just 34 attempts.
 
In Relief
Justin McCalvin is quickly becoming one of the top relief pitchers around, holding a 0.84 ERA in 11 appearances. McCalvin has tossed 21.1 innings allowing just two earned run while striking out 22.
 
Multi-Hit Games
Jacob Bruce leads the Owls in multi-hit games in 2014 with nine total. Bruce has had three or more hits on six occasions and two hits three times.
 
Simmons on Base
Shortstop Kal Simmons has now reached base safely in 18 of the team's 20 games. Simmons had reached safely in the first 15 games of the year before his streak was snapped over this past weekend against Columbia.
 
Simmons at Short
Simmons is the only player in the KSU lineup to have started at the same position all season, filling the shortstop spot. Catcher Max Pentecost has seen action in all 20 as both a catcher or a designated hitter.
 
Behind the Plate
Pentecost has now caught six base runners attempting to steal from behind the dish.
