KENNESAW, Ga. – Sophomore designated hitter Courtney Sutter singled up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead Kennesaw State to a 2-1 extra-inning victory over visiting Mississippi State in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Bailey Park.

Junior left fielder Natalie Rhodes started the winning rally by reaching base on an error and senior center fielder Sara Sikes was hit by a pitch to put two on with no outs. Angie Dascoli laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third.

Alison Owen (5-1) came on in relief of Alexis Silkwood and recorded the second out on a foul popup before Sutter came through with the clutch hit that helped the Owls improve to 11-10 on the season.

Senior right-hander Amanda Henderson (10-4) pitched three innings of two-hit ball to earn the victory in relief of starter Paige Mathews.

Mathews, who allowed three hits and a run, pitched five scoreless innings before surrendering a leadoff home run to Caroline Seitz in the sixth inning. The homer came a half inning after Kennesaw State scored an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead.

Mississippi State (20-5) put at least one runner on base in every inning except the seventh.  However, Mathews was able to work out of trouble as she stranded six Bulldog runners in five innings. Henderson escaped on a two-on and one out situation in the sixth and allowed a two-out infield single in the eighth before eventually striking out the side.

Rhodes and Sikes had two hits apiece lead the Owls.

Kennesaw State is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Furman in a doubleheader at Bailey Park beginning at 2 p.m. (ET).
