Junior Beck Ties For Fifth to Lead Kennesaw State

OPELIKA, Ala. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team continued its season-long trend of consistent play as it finished second at the 15-team Auburn Invitational that concluded Tuesday at Grand National's par-72, 7,149-yard Lake Course.
 
The Owls carded a final-round 1-under par 287 to finish the 54-hole event with a 3-under par 861 to record their third straight second-place showing. Kennesaw State finished 19 shots behind host and No. 28 Auburn, which won the event with a 22-under par total of 842.
 
The Tigers and Owls were the only teams to conclude the tournament under par. Mississippi State was third with a 9-over par score of 873, while No. 38 Memphis (875) and Auburn's "B" team (879) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
"We made some really solid progress this week towards becoming the team we want to be," Kennesaw State head coach Jay Moseley said. "It's always encouraging to see improvement so we are just going to continue to work on what we need to.  We have a great stretch of events coming up so this positive momentum will be great for us as we strive to get better each day."
 
Junior Jimmy Beck turned in a final-round even-par score of 72 to finish in a tie for fifth place with a 5-under par score of 211, five shots behind Jacksonville State's Thomasz Anderson who claimed individual medalist honors with a 10-under par 206. Becks recorded his third top-five finish of the season.
 
Mississippi State's Chad Ramey (207) placed second and was followed by Auburn teammates Niclas Carlsson (208) and Daniel Stringfellow (209), who finished third and fourth, respectively.
 
Freshman Teremoana Beaucousin continued his solid rookie campaign as he tied for ninth with a 1-under par 215 after posting scores of 71-73-71 for his fourth straight top-10 showing.  
 
Junior Austin Vick tied for 17th with a 3-over par 219, while redshirt-junior Kelby Burton (224) and freshman Chris Guglielmo (226) tied for 332nd and 39th, respectively.
 
Kennesaw State is next in action on Mar. 22 when it opens play in the Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga. The Owls are co-hosting the tournament with Mercer Reynolds Plantation's Great Waters Golf Course.
