JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Even with a career day from Kennesaw State baseball starting pitcher #
Travis Bergen#, the Owls couldn't find their offensive rhythm on the other end, falling to Jacksonville State 1-0 in the second of three meetings between the two schools this season.
Bergen went a career-best seven innings, giving up just one run on three hits and fanning eight Gamecock batters, also a career mark for the sophomore, lowering his ERA to just 2.60.
Jacksonville State starter Zachary Fowler went seven innings and struck out seven hitters. Fowler and three others combined to shutout the Owls in a full game for the first time in 29 games.
The Owls, now 7-5, managed just two hits during the ballgame, one each from
Kal Simmons and
Chris McGowan. Catcher
Max Pentecost had his 11 game hitting streak snapped.
Jacksonville State (5-4), took the lead in the bottom of the first when Michael Bishop scored on an Owl error which was the game's only run.
Justin McCalvin went the final inning on the hill for the Owls, striking out the side in order .
On the bases, Liquori stole his second base of the year for the Owls.
Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State will play the final game of this three game series tomorrow, March 2, at 2 p.m. ET.
