ORLANDO, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team is tied for 14th place after the first round of the 19-team UCF Challenge that is being played at the par-72, 6,349-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.

The Owls opened with a 12-over par 300 and are currently 18 shots behind UCF which posted a 6-under par score of 282 and holds a five-stroke advantage over Miami (287). The Knights and Hurricanes were the only teams to break par.

East Tennessee State is third with an even-par total of 288, while Augusta State and South Florida are tied for fourth at 2-over par 290.

Junior Ines Lescudier completed the first round with a 1-over par 73 and is tied for 26th place, six shots behind UCF's Fanny Cnops, who carded a 5-under par 67 and holds a one-shot lead over Augusta State's Casey Kennedy and East Tennessee State's Gabriella Wahl. Both players posted 4-under par 68s.

The UCF Challenge marked the collegiate debut for freshman Laura Estefenn who joined the Kennesaw State program in January. Estefenn posted 14 pars en route to a 3-over par 75 and is tied for 49th.

Freshman Dulcie Sverdloff and junior Kaew Preamchuen shot first-round scores of 76 and are tied for 66th, while junior Mette Kryger Pedersen posted a 78 in her Kennesaw State debut and is tied for 97th.

Pedersen joined the Owls in January after transferring from Chattanooga.

"We had solid performances from 1-5 today," Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "Ines led the way with a very steady round, I'm also very proud of Laura's first collegiate round. She had a mental error but other than that she played great. Tomorrow we need to make more birdies and be more aggressive on our short putts. I'm excited for what lies ahead for the squad."

UCF Challenge action continues on Monday and Kennesaw State will be grouped with Campbell and Georgia State. Play begins with a 9 a.m. (ET) shotgun start. All the action can be followed live on the Internet at www.golfstatresults.com.
