Championship Celebration | A-Sun Highlights | Andre Dorsey Highlights

KENNESAW, Ga. –
After the men's track and field team won its third Indoor Atlantic Sun Championship in a row, they have been rewarded with two post-season awards. Andy Eggerth, Director of Track and Field, has won his sixth A-Sun Coach of the Year award, and Andre Dorsey has won the Men's Field Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row.

"It's always a privilege to be voted Coach of the Year by your peers, but I can't really take any credit," Eggerth said. "It's always a team effort in every sense of the phrase. My staff has worked their tails off, and I would be ineffective without the hard work and dedication of Duane, Agne, Josh, Robbie, and Q. Obviously, I wouldn't be considered for such an award if our athletes didn't put in their work six days a week, frequently twice a day, and come out victorious. And of course our support staff of everyone from Amanda in the training room to Heath and Cindy in the compliance office, from our Sports performance staff to our business office, and so on. It goes without mention that our administration is part of this team effort giving us the resources and support to be successful, so you can see that it's not me. I'm blessed to be surrounded by the greatness that is Kennesaw State. My thanks to all those that contribute to OUR success, I hope that all involved take ownership!"

Eggerth has not only led the men's team to a three peat in the A-Sun, but they are starting to receive respect nationally as they are ranked 18th in the country by the USTFCCCA. That is the highest ranking for a Kennesaw State team since joining NCAA Division I in 2005.

A large part of starting to receive that national respect is junior Andre Dorsey. He is the only athlete in the nation currently ranked top 10 nationally in three different events. He is third in the triple jump with a jump of 16.27m (53'2.25"), tied for sixth in the high jump after clearing 2.23m (7'3.75m"), and seventh in the long jump with a jump of 7.76m (25'5.5").

At the A-Sun Championships, Dorsey accumulated 38 points with three gold medals in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump and a silver medal in the shot put. The long jump and high jump marks were both conference records.

Next up, Dorsey will be competing at the Indoor NCAA Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 14-15.
