Jacksonville Ala. –
Jordan Hillyer pitched seven strong innings for the Kennesaw State baseball team, leading the Owls to a 10-1 win over Jacksonville State on Friday afternoon at Rudy Abbott Field.
Hillyer struck out a career-high seven batters while allowing just three hits. The Owl offense then made sure Hillyer had plenty of run support as well, scoring 10 runs on 16 hits as KSU remains perfect on the road in 2014.
The Owls were led offensively by
Bo Way who continues his hot streak at the plate, belting three hits while driving in three runs. Five different Owls also had two hits apiece as KSU moves to 7-4 on the season.
The Owls jumped on the board first, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first on RBI singles by Way and
Chris McGowan.
Jacksonville State would score its only run of the game in the bottom of the first when Mica Bishop scored on an Owl error.
Kennesaw State then struck for three more runs in the top of the second inning as Jacob Bruce's two RBI double and Max Pentecosts' RBI groundout pushed the Owls' lead to 5-1.
After being held quite for the next three innings, The Owls struck for four more runs in the top of the sixth with Way's two RBI single, Brennan Morgan's RBI groundout and Mcgowan's RBI single giving the Owls a 9-1 lead.
KSU would add its final run in the ninth on a
Justin Motley RBI double.
Cole McArthur,
Mason Ward and
Kendall Hawkins combined to pitch the last two shutout innings for the Owls.
Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State will play again tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET in game two of the three game series.
