ATHENS, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team produced 16 hits and picked up a go ahead RBI from
Kal Simmons along with a pair of crucial strikeouts from closer
James Connell as the Owls took home a 10-7 win over Georgia on Tuesday night a Foley Field, the second consecutive win for KSU in Athens, Ga.

Sophomore Alex Liquouri scored the go-ahead run on Simmons' fielder's choice in the top of the eighth to give KSU the lead for good in what was a tightly contested ballgame as the Owls improve to 3-1 on the year while sinking the Bulldogs to 1-3.Â

Bo Way paced the Owls with three hits while five Owls contributed with two hits each including a three-run homerun from
Chris McGowan in the fifth, sending his blast well past the rightfield wall.

Junior
Justin McCalvin pitched 2.1 strong innings in relief, striking out three while earning his first win of the season from the mound.

Following first pitch it was the Bulldogs that jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, putting KSU on its heels early. But the Owls bounced back, getting on the board in the third inning when
Dylan Ivey scored on an error by UGA third baseman Jess Posey.

The Owls would add another run in the fourth when Liquori reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Bo Way to put KSU within one at 3-2. Â

Kennesaw State then took its first lead of the night at 5-3 in the top of the fifth inning when McGowan went deep, earning the first homer of the year for the Owls in the process.
Â
Georgia responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 5-5, but the Owls scored four runs in the ninth inning to take a commanding 10-5 lead, aided by a two RBI single from Simmons.

The Bulldogs threatened with two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but Connell struck out the last two Bulldogs with the bases loaded to preserve the win for the Owls.

Simmons drove in three runs on two hits while Way tied for the game lead with his three hits, leading the offensive charge for KSU during the win. Also putting up multiple hits were Ivey,
Jacob Bruce,
Brennan Morgan and
Matt Bahnick.
Â
KSU also stole a pair of bases, one each coming from Bruce and catcher
Max Pentecost.

Starting pitcher
Chris Erwin tossed two innings, allowing two hits before giving way to
Cole McArthur, who lasted 3.2 innings giving up four hits. McCalvin replaced McArthur en route to picking up the win.

Kennesaw State returns home to face Savannah State on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 5 p.m. ET in Stillwell Statdium.
