FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team received solid play throughout its lineup during Monday's opening 36 holes of the Amelia Island Collegiate and currently sits in second place.
After posting a 2-over par 290 in the first round, the Owls carded a season-low 6-under par 282 total in the second round for a 4-under par 572, 13 shots behind Florida International, which leads the 14-team field at the par-72, 6,029-yard Amelia National Golf & Country Club in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Junior
Kaew Preamchuen recorded sub-par rounds of 70-71 for a 141 total and is in fifth place, eight shots behind Florida International's Camila Serrano, who turned in rounds of 67-66 for an 11-under total of 133, four shots better than Daytona State College's Tiffany Chan (137).
Preamchuen is one of three Kennesaw State players in the top 10 as she is joined by freshmen
Dulcie Sverdloff and
Laura Estefenn. After opening with 1-over par 73, Sverdloff turned in a career-best round of 3-under par 69 and is in sixth place with a 142 total. Estefenn also turned in a career-low score in the second rounding, posting a 2-under par 70 and is tied for 10th at 4-over par 146.
Junior
Ines Lescudier recorded rounds of 76-70 for a 3-over par 147 and is tied for 14th. Redshirt junior
Hayley Clinning, playing in her first collegiate tournament in more than a year, turned in rounds of 79-72 and is tied for 31st at 7-over par 151.
Junior
Mette Kryger Pedersen, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 54th after rounds of 78 and 81.
"Today was so much fun. Anytime you can go out and shoot sub-par rounds it's always satisfying," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "Everything clicked today and we capitalized on the opportunities on the course. We had contributions from players 1-5 today and that's how you win tournaments. We're excited to get out there tomorrow and compete for a win."
The Owls conclude play on Tuesday with final-round action beginning at 8:30 a.m. Kennesaw State will be grouped with Florida International and host Jacksonville. All the action can be followed live on the Internet at
