MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team was back in action on Saturday and suffered a hard-fought 4-3 setback to Jacksonville State at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on the campus of Alabama State University.
After winning the doubles point and evening the score at 3-3 following Jake Bouchillon's victory at No. 6 singles, the match came to play at No. 2 singles where Jacksonville State's Jaryd Reese outlasted
Jorge Wilton, 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 to clinch the match for the Gamecocks (2-3).
"We failed to capitalize in our opportunities," Kennesaw State
Eduardo Rincon said. "We will go back to the drawing board tonight and talk about the good and the bad. I think the most important thing is to make sure we don't make the same mistakes tomorrow (Sunday).
"The team fought and competed hard," Rincon added. "However, this one hurts because we were so close to finishing and we hesitated in multiple courts multiple times."
The Owls (2-4) claimed victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions as Wilton and
Maksim Yorsh posted an 8-3 win at No. 1 and
Simon Pritchard and
Louis Theodor recorded an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Pritchard and Bouchillon were victorious at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Kennesaw State concludes its weekend to trip to Montgomery on Sunday when it takes on Alabama State beginning at 3 p.m. (ET).
