ROUND THREE RESULTS ( PDF) GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team wrapped up its fall schedule in convincing fashion as the Owls finished second at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, hosted by East Carolina at the par-72, 6,088-yard Greenville Country Club on Tuesday (Oct. 14).
KSU recorded a 31-over par total of 895 after firing a 13-over par total of 301 in its final round, besting a pair of top-50 teams in ECU and Middle Tennessee.
"I am very pleased with this result given we did not play our best today," said head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead. "We knew GRU Augusta was going to be tough competition and they proved that today with a great round, but we maintained second place in very difficult conditions and I am so happy for the team. We beat two top-50 teams, which will help our national ranking. This team is so much fun to coach and it is always nice to be coming home with a trophy."
Senior
Ines Lescudier continued her strong play as she registered her third-consecutive top-10 finish after tying for eighth place with an even-par 72 in her final round to post a six-over par 222 for the tournament.
"I played very consistent today," said Lescudier. "It was very windy and I actually like that a lot. I made lots of up and down to save pars. I was a little bit frustrated with my putting, especially on the last two holes where I should have made birdie-birdie and ended up with bogey-par. However, I am happy with my last two rounds. After shooting a 78 it was a challenge for me to get back in there, but I fought very hard. The team also fought hard given the conditions and I know we all did our best. We now move into offseason and will look to get even better for the spring season. Overall this fall was a success and I am very excited to see what will happen for my last semester with the team."
Sophomore
Dulcie Sverdloff fired a final round three-over par 75 for a season-low tournament total of 223 and posted her best finish of the fall with a tie for 11th place.
Sophomore
Laura Estefenn also recorded her best finish of the fall schedule as she tied for 27th with a 12-over par 228 tournament total after carding a six-over par 78 in her final round. Right behind Estefenn was senior
Kaew Preamchuen, who finished in a tie for 34th with a 13-over par total of 229 following a final round four-over 76 score.
Freshman
Henriette Nielsen turned in her best performance of the fall season, tying for 41st with a season-low 15-over par total of 231 and carded a six-over par 78 in her final round on Tuesday.
GRU Augusta took home the team title, turning in an even-par 288 in its final round for a 54-hole total of 876 (+12) and a 19-stroke victory over the Owls. Middle Tennessee moved up three spots on the final day with a third round four-over par 292 to finish in third place with a 33-over par total of 897. Winthrop's Jennifer Dilger earned individual medalist honors with a two-under par total of 214 after posting a one-under par 71 in her final round.
The Owls will now break for the fall and open its spring schedule at the Florida State Match-Up, hosted by Florida State at the Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla., on Feb. 13-15.
