GREENVILLE, N.C. – With a season-low team score of four-over par 292 in its second of two rounds on Monday (Oct. 13), the Kennesaw State women's golf team put itself in prime contention and are in second place at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, held at the par-72, 6,088-yard Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C.

The Owls opened the 18-team event with a 14-over par 302 in its first round and own a 18-over par total of 594 through 36 holes of play to trail Georgia Regents Augusta (588) by only six strokes heading into the final round.

"Today was what team college golf is all about and I am very proud of my team," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "We really struggled this morning. We hit bad shots I have not seen this year and made poor decisions. I am really glad today was 36 holes because we were able to rally and play the way we should. Our 292 score this afternoon was very impressive. I am so proud of Henriette for her 74 after being three over after three holes, as well as Ines to shoot 72 after also being three over after three. This team is so much fun to coach and I am excited to play for a win tomorrow."

Sophomore Dulcie Sverdloff led the charge for the Owls, shooting a four-over par 76 in her first round, before firing an even-par 72 in her second round for a four-over par total of 148 and is tied for seventh place.

"I played well all day and just had a string of bad luck on four holes of the back nine this morning that broke the momentum," said Sverdloff. "This afternoon I played steady and played the back nine better, but wish a few more putts had dropped. It was nice to shoot a good score with Coach walking the full 18 with me this afternoon and I was proud of the team to get ourselves back in contention for tomorrow."

Senior Ines Lescudier and sophomore Laura Estefenn are tied for 18th after posting a six-over par total of 150 through two rounds. Lescudier carded rounds of 78-72, including draining four birdies in her afternoon session after being three-over through three holes, while Estefenn finished with rounds of 76-74 and totaled 26 pars on the day.

Rounding out the Owls were senior Kaew Preamchuen and freshman Henriette Nielsen, who both registered a nine-over par total of 153 and are tied for 35th as Preamchuen carded rounds of 72-81 on Monday. Nielsen opened with a seven-over par 79, before rebounding to post a career-low two-over par 74 in her second round, making three birdies to battle back after being three-over through three holes.

GRU Augusta leads the tournament after posting rounds of 297 and 291 for a 12-over par total of 588 and owns a six-stroke lead over the Owls. Georgia State sits three strokes behind KSU and is in third place with a 21-over par total of 597. Jennifer Dilger of Winthrop and GRU Augusta's Josefine Nyqvist lead individually with a one-over par total of 143.

The third and final round of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate begins Tuesday (Oct. 14) with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET. Live scoring for the third round will be available HERE.
