BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Kennesaw State women's tennis team opened its 2014 dual-match season with a 7-0 loss to Samford at the Samford Tennis Complex in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday. The contest marked the season opener for both teams.

The Owls competed with just two doubles teams and five individuals playing at singles.

Senior Alexandra Apostu had the most competitive match while playing at No. 1 singles. Apostu battled Kristin Lewis to a 7-6 (7-3) first-set loss before falling 6-2 in the second set.

The match marked the collegiate debut for freshman Gabriela Bueno, who joined the Kennesaw State program in January. Bueno fell 6-0, 6-1 to Yasmeen Ebada at No. 3 singles.

Kennesaw State resumes play on Sunday when it faces UAB in Birmingham, Ala., beginning at 1 p.m. (ET).
