ROCKY FACE, Ga. – Kennesaw State junior
Jimmy Beck (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS) turned in a final-round 1-under par 71 to finish with an even-par total of 216 and tie for 12th place at the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate that concluded Sunday at the par-72, 7,012-yard The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga.
Beck recorded rounds of 72-73-71 to lead the Owls who finished 13th in the 14-team event. Host Georgia Tech led wire-to-wire and captured the team championship with a 14-under par 850 total and registered a six-shot victory over Georgia (856). Kennesaw State posted rounds of 297-299-301 to finish the 54-hole tournament with a 33-over total of 897.
"This week was not the start we envisioned but we will get better from it," Kennesaw State head coach
Jay Moseley said. "I am excited about the potential this team has. We had a lot of positives this week and with more experience through the season we will be a much better team."
North Carolina's Bailey Patrick and Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia Tech tied for individual medalist honors with a 9-under par total of 207 to finish four shots ahead of LSU's Stewart Jolly (211).
Making his first appearance since the 2011-12 season, redshirt junior
Kelby Burton (Evans, Ga. / Lakeside HS) tied for 48th after carding rounds of 77-74-75 for a 10-over par total of 226. Senior
Jonathan Klotz (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS) tied for 53rd at 11-over par 227, while sophomore
Carlos Segura Oliva (Malaga, Spain / Colegio El Limonar ) tied for 62nd (230) and freshman
Teremoana Beaucousin (Papara, Tahiti / Lycée de Papara), in his collegiate debut, tied for 68th (234).
Kennesaw State is next in action on Sunday, Sept. 22, when it opens play in the Rees Jones Invitational at Haig Point G.C. in Daufuskie Island, S.C.
